John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, spread more than just apples. He also spread seeds of various herbs and plants. A form of not very appetizing fennel was one of them, which thrived in the midwest around Ohio. It became so abundant, it’s treated like a weed, and is still sometimes referred to as “Johnny-Weed.”
