OK, people:

“The customer is always right”

means things like

“If some crazy person wants mustard on their french fries, give it to ‘em”

or 

“If they hate pickles, leave the pickles off”.

It does not mean 

“If you are a customer you are basically a Roman emperor.”

The expression was never meant to be literal.
