jokes aside w the massive success of thor ragnarok after all that dark depressing shit youd think theyd think twice about going back down that route. nobody wants to see the characters they love die, especially without purpose.  shock value deaths have always been failures; it doesnt matter how many dead memes or half assed jokes marvel throws into their movies if at the end the characters people loved and related to were all killed in various gruesome or even dismissive ways.

there’s a big difference between “i’m sad because a character i was emotionally invested in was killed off” and “this character’s death served no purpose, was used for shock value, and is the product of bad writing and i’m upset about that”

This, exactly.

George RR Martin: I’m going to kill off so many beloved characters with no warning that it’ll traumatise my fans for years.

Marvel: Hold my beer.
