Well said, John Green!

A lot of people forget that the President only has a limited power of influence over the laws that are passed. He is a figure-head at most.

And while Donald Trump is undoubtedly the most ugliest and heinous figure-head in American history in every possible way, we can not let him change what America stands for.

He can only change the way things are if we let him

But how do we stop him? Easy.

Make your voice heard

Before the final ballot was counted I, like the majority of the American people, was absolutely terrified that Donald Trump would become the next President of the United States.

But now that he is, I am not going to take that fact lying down

I have heard many people say that they are just going to buckle down and wait for the 2020 elections.

Not me

During the next four years, here’s what I’m going to be doing:

Joining protests.

Signing petitions.

Donating to charities.

Standing up for myself, and others.

Taking self-defense classes.

Bettering myself not only as an American but as a human.

Making the world see that, though he was elected, the American people did not choose him to be the face of our country.

It’s time to stop standing by, letting these fear- and hatemongers get away with whatever they want.

Because the only thing Donald Trump is influencing are the voices of those who discriminate, put down, even physically harm minorities, women, and lgbtq+.

And as a young Asexual Woman, I refuse to let that happen.

So please, if you are out on the street, running your day-to-day errands, and you see someone harassing a person wearing a hijab, stand up to them. If you see a woman on the bus or the train being cat-called at by some dude who thinks he is entitled to her body just because she was born female, you make him shut the hell up.

If you are scared that these things are going to happen to you, this is the time to be brave in the face of that. To make your voice be heard.

Because the white supremacists, neo-nazis, and KKK supporters, they think that they have the power to openly discriminate, hate, harass, taunt, etc., anyone that they wish because an openly racist, sexist, slug of a man is sitting in the White House. And it is our time to prove them wrong.

This is the time to show what America truly stands for. No one man or woman is the face of America; its people is. And if we show the world that we do not abide this, then we can truly make a change.

These people only have power if we let them have power, but in reality we, the minorities, the women, the lgbtq+ have the power.

So, don’t be scared.

Be angry.

And make a difference. Make a change.

I’m in love with you,” he said quietly.

“Augustus,” I said.

“I am,” he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. “I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.
