#Why did they delete this scene?#I love this scene so much,#because when the guards bow to him he’s surpised,#he thinks it’s a joke,#he thinks they’re tricking him,#and he look at Frigga for reassurance,#and she tells him he’s king,#can you see the doubt in his eyes?#also he didn’t make himself king,#he was MADE king,#this is so important!
Everyone knows a very important scene, which for some reason was cut from the film. Always liked the contrast of Loki’s emotions: first his face shows surprise and even some confusion, and then an understanding of the situation and the opportunities that are now open to him. This scene is another reminder that in the first part Loki was not a usurper. In general, I just really love this moment.
Definitely a great scene.
(Or, Loki Was the Rightful King Anyway, An Essay That’s Far Longer Than It Should Need to Be to Show Such a Bloody Obvious Fact)
Forgive me, it’s late and my sarcasm switch got jammed there for a second. The essay itself should be somewhat less snarky. I hope. (I simply don’t understand how the deleted scene in question ever got read as depicting Frigga as giving him anything she had control over.)
This is an expansion upon something that I brought up in the comments to mosellegreen’s latest Thor ficlet. I’ve been meaning to write something up about this for a while now, and the situation in her ficlet brought it out.
It seems to be commonly held in MCU fandom that the deleted scene from Thor in which Loki becomes king shows Frigga choosing to give Loki a regency that otherwise would be hers, as some sort of gesture of support or belief in him, and that therefore Loki owes his claim of kingship to Frigga’s confidence in him and intervention. And I wonder where this thought came from, because that is not, actually, what the scene shows at all.
What it shows is Loki becoming king because he is the next person in line for the throne. The next rightful heir. Period. Which makes all his subsequent references to having been the rightful king of Asgard factually accurate, rather than some self-serving interpretation of a slightly blurrier reality.
Wherein condi changes my headcanon.
Until Odin awakens, Asgard is yours.
//Remember that time when Asgard was given to Loki in a completely legitimate manner by Frigga?
Yeah neither does half the fandom, evidently.
YES OH MY WORD EVERYONE WHY ARE THERE STILL PEOPLE WHO THINK LOKI USURPED THE THRONE
I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS
Well, granted that this scene was cut because the studio realized they had made Loki too sympathetic.
//It seems Loki’s Army has even infiltrated Cracked.com, as proven by this entry by user krakenkraked for that site’s Photoplasty topic:
